Campus Life

Residential Facilities
PIEAS offers on-campus residence to its students as there are numerous benefits to living on campus including convenience, opportunities to develop life-long friendships, and to live in an environment that fosters the educational and personal growth of students.
PIEAS provides hostel facilities for both female and male students. Majority of the students stay in the hostels. There are eight hostel blocks including a separate female hostel, subsidized mess, canteen, fitness centre, a rest-house, indoor and outdoor sports facilities. A post office, a bank and shops for commonly required items are available in the vicinity. A newly constructed mosque is a recent addition.
Computer Centre, LAN and WiFiConnectivity
PIEAS provides a wide range of computing facilities and services to support research, teaching and learning. The Computer Centre is equipped with 200+ I5 machines, network printing (both color and black and white), scanners and instructional aids for instructors. The Computer Centre is open for students round the clock throughout the year, providing full-time technical assistance to students. Wired connectivity is available all around the Campus and in all residential units. Besides, blanket wireless connectivity under 'Smart University Campus' is available all around the Campus. The commissioned bandwidth stands at 358 Mbit/s.
Library and Information Service
PIEAS Central Library and its collections, services provide vital support for students, researchers and staff, complementing academic activities. Library provides for access to the world of information – whether in print or online. The library has a collection of more than 44000 books and subscribes technical journals. It also has more than 500 volumes of back issues of journals, nearly 1300 technical reports and more than 4400 thesis. All titles are RFID tagged and self-service kiosk is available. Access to HEC digital library is also available.
Reading zones and discussion rooms have been built for the patrons of the Library. Both wired and wireless connectivty are avaialble. Library extends full support to students with disabilities. The entire building is accessible. Wheel-chairs and support staff is available on request. Lift services are also available to support access to first- and second-floor.
Luminary, on the ground-floor, is a purpose-built convenience room for national and international faculty, luminaries and invited guest speakers. Zeest, on the ground-floor, is a purpose-built Urdu literature section with an assorted collection of 5000+ titles from reknowned Urdu writers. Apostrophe, a video-conferencing facility, provides technical support to promote tele-medicine activities across Pakistan and serves as enabling venue for distance-learning education.
PIEAS Central Library has a reservoir of more than 31,000 books. International scientific journals and computer magazines are being subscribed. Efforts are at hand to have a direct access to some foreign and on-line libraries. Electronic catalogue is available which is kept up-to-date.
Maintenance Department/ Workshops
PIEAS has mechanical, electrical, electronics and wood workshops to carry out repair and maintenance works throughout the Campus. These facilities are also used to fabricate some components that may be needed for R&D work.
Health Care
The hostels of the Institute maintain first-aid supplies to cope with medical emergencies. Besides, an on-call doctor and a well-equipped dispensary with ambulance service is available to the campus residents round the clock.
Sports Facilities
Students are provided access to a variety of sports facilities at PIEAS campus to suit their mood and time. The campus has halls for indoor games like chess, carem, billiard and snookers. Outdoor facilities, catering for cricket, basketball, tennis and badminton are also provided. Close proximity to the hilly area gives access to a wide range of other outdoor pursuits like hiking, camping etc. In addition, a full week is reserved in every regular semester to organize 'Sports Week'.
Transport
A bus service has been arranged for the boarding students to travel to and from Rawalpindi/ Islamabad throughout each semester at scheduled hours. Private bus services also operate between Chirah Chowk, Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Students are also provided official transport for excursions, study tours and, in some cases, emergencies. The provisions for excursions and emergencies may be charged.
School and College
The children of resident faculty members, staff and students enrolled in longer programs (e.g., Ph.D. or Fellowship programs) may get education in the PAEC Model College located on the residential premises. The College caters schooling from primary to intermediate level and has a separate wing for girls.
Mosque
The Mosque at PIEAS is open for all daily prayers as well as Juma congregation.
Covenience Center
A shopping area on the premises caters most of the daily needs of the campus residents. A bank and a post office are also available in the shopping area. Traveling by public transport may be a bit hard venture, but it is available.
Extacurricular Activities
Getting involved with extracurricular activities during your time here at PIEAS is a great way to learn something new and immerse yourself in the dynamic student community at PIEAS. Participating in student activities and programs has been proven to have a positive correlation with psychosocial development. Students involved in student organizations were observed during their freshman and senior year of university and reported having higher levels of development in regards to career planning, life management, cultural participation and educational involvement.
