Student-Led Environmental Sustainability Society
The Green Youth Movement (GYM) – PIEAS Chapter is an officially recognized, student-led environmental sustainability society operating under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. The movement aims to organize, mobilize, and empower youth to lead eco-innovation, environmental conservation, and climate action across the country.
GYM works through university-based clubs, transforming campuses into green living labs, promoting behavioral change, and generating youth-driven solutions to environmental challenges. The PIEAS Chapter of GYM carries forward this national vision through impactful projects, technical innovation, community outreach, and awareness campaigns.

- Liquid & Solid Waste Management
- Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency
Major Projects
- Green Bins Initiative – Reusing discarded plastic oil tanks to create durable waste bins
- Smart Waste Segregation System – Student-designed smart bins separating metal and non-metal waste
- Sustainability Day – Annual awareness campaign hosting competitions, talks, and clean-campus drives
- Energy Conservation Campaign – Promoting responsible energy use on campus
- Waste Segregation Program – Awareness sessions + installation of dedicated segregation bins
National Linkages
GYM PIEAS is part of the nationwide Green Youth Movement under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) and Higher Education Commission (HEC), connecting PIEAS students to national-level sustainability efforts and youth policy contributions.
Leadership
The society is run by student office bearers including a Captain, Vice Captain, GYM thematic leads, GYM communication lead and team members.
National Linkages
The GYM–PIEAS Chapter is part of a nationwide network of youth-led green clubs established in 137 public sector universities. Its activities are aligned with:

Disability Support Cell (DSC) – PIEAS
The Disability Support Cell (DSC) at the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) is established under Student Affairs Division (SADiv) to ensure that all students with disabilities have equitable access to academic programs, campus facilities, and student services. The DSC provides individualized support, reasonable accommodations, and guidance to foster an inclusive learning environment.
The Cell is committed to assisting students with physical, sensory, learning, medical, or temporary disabilities, in accordance with PIEAS policies on inclusive education and equal opportunity.

- Facilitation between students and faculty to ensure appropriate support

Student Representation & Governance at PIEAS
PIEAS maintains a recognized student governance and representation structure functioning as the institution’s student union. All student societies operate under the Student Affairs Division with elected leadership, representing the interests of undergraduate and postgraduate students. The leadership structure includes President, Vice President, General Secretary, and executive members, selected through democratic student elections.
PIEAS is also connected to national student engagement structures through the Young Peace & Development Corps (YPDC) program under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Through this affiliation, PIEAS students participate in national youth development, policy discussions, and inter-university coordination platforms.Student Leadership Structure

Scope of Representation
Student leadership bodies collectively contribute to:

- Hostel and accommodation matters (in coordination with SAS Division)
- Co-curricular and welfare activities
- Campus-wide student events and initiatives
- Representation of PIEAS in inter-university forums and programs
This structure ensures that all students undergraduate and postgraduate have a mechanism through which their concerns, suggestions, and needs are communicated to the administration.
Institutional Recognition
The student representation system at PIEAS is formally recognized by the university and operates under the guidance of:
